Conjuration of the Witch-Father Tubalo Lucifer By Andrew Chumbley Within the Sabbatic Teachings of the Crooked Path Sorcery there is a circle of sixteen witch-deities, forming in totality the retinue of the so-called 'Faithful Gods'. These deities are the spiritual embodiments of gnosis and ritual power: the revelations of divine knowledge as made manifest by the stellar radiances that illuminate the ritual circle via the cardinal and sub-cardinal directions. Each of the retinue is thus deemed a guardian and ward of a specific station and body of lore upon the Compass-rose of Time and Wisdom. The eight pairs forming this retinue are each regarded as the father and mother of the initiate who, in standing at the heart of the circle, is himself identified with the inner starry radiance: the Child of Heaven on Earth. The initiate is thus the vessel of the initiatory fire and is identified with 'Cain: the Child eight times born on the wheel of the year and the eight winds of space'. A female initiate would be identified with the wife-sister of Cain and be seen as a Daughter of the Retinue. Tubalo Lucifer is accounted as the fourth deity of the Retinue and is accorded the station of the Lord of the North-eastern Airt. He is revered as the Deity of the Heavenly Forge or Mill of Stars, whose work sends forth sparks of living numen: the fiery grain of the serpent to seed the field of the circle with spirit-wisdom and new souls. Tubalo Lucifer is deemed the angelic instructor of the arts of metallurgy and smithing, and as such may be interpreted as the celestial counterpart of the earthly ancestor and blacksmith, Tubal-cain. Accordingly Tubalo's emblems are the hammer, tongs and anvil of the blacksmith, and the horseshoes and nails of the farrier. Here follows the Conjuration of Tubalo Lucifer, adapted from the so-called 'Dragon-book of Essex' and as set forth for use in the covine of four or 'Quadriga'. For solitary use, the ritual should be adapted and the accompanying image used as a votive focus. The Rite The Quadriga is divided three and one: three will recite the Conjuration and one - the chosen officiant - will serve as the Vessel for the Flame of the Spirit. In this conjuration the chosen vessel will be stationed in the North-east of the circle, upon the earth-sign traced in powders of charcoal and ash. The other brethren will be stationed so as to hold the circle in balance, their faces, hearts and will turned unto the officiant. Mantic Formula: I-HU-TUBALO The Sigil: O' Tubalo Lucifer, Cunning-Father and Lord of the North-eastern Airt, Guardian of the Right-hand Pillar at the Silvern Gate of Argestes, we bid Thee to hear us and to be here with us! Be Thou before us as the Light-bearer, Guardian of the Morning-star! O' Come Thou forth in Thy grand array, robed in the splendour of darkness to beckon the light of dawn. Here reveal Thy shining countenance, red-golden tanned with the heat of Heaven's forge. Bear down the Mysteries of Fire unto Man; steal Thou the Flame from the Altar of the Highest Star. Be Thou here amongst us to unsheath the blade from the heart of the upright stone, to instruct us in the ways of metal and measure; yea, to reveal the Forbidden Wisdom of Angels amid this, the Earthen Circle of Our Arte. In Thy four hands bear forth the signs of Thy dominion:- the Star-lit Lantern of Morning, whose flame doth reveal a burning book; the Skull-drum of Habila, whose rhythm is of a thousand clashing swords; the Blacksmith's Sceptre - the striking hammer, whose Word is the Uncooling Nail of Heresy rejoicing on the anvil; and the Compass and Square for the Temple's Design - for the meter'd line of all Fate and Faith. O' Tubalo Lucifer, Lord of Argestes, be Thou here amongst us! By hammer and by nail, we bid Thee to empower us. The officiant should be led forth into the centre. The other initiates should, if so skilled in Arte, now make sacrifice, turn the circle and chant the name 'Tubalo' until the spirit indwells the officiant. The Vessel may then give forth its oracle and empowerment. When able to proceed, the officiant may perform the empowerment of Tubalo using a hammer and an iron nail. Moving doesil in order amongst the initiates, he should touch the nail to their hands and feet, each time gently striking the nail with the hammer. As this is being done he should bless each initiate, telling them that by this deed no mortal weapon may harm them, no disease may come upon them, and that no hurt of man may afflict him. When an initiate has been so consecrated, the nail is struck into the ground before him; this seals the empowerment and signifies the falling of heaven's fire to earth. When all have received the empowerment of Tubalo Lucifer the officiant shall speak:- Heed well my words and deeds, and know that I, Tubalo Lucifer, am with you! Shod art Thou, Quadriga and Man, with the iron of Heaven's Forge on earth. As it is spoken, so mote it be done! Bilo Bilo Hu! Bha-Azha-Ka! The officiant bows to seal the conjuration. The brethren return the bow. A suitable binding is the 'The Horseman's Salute' (Here's to the Horse, with the four feet, etc.) A alternative version is as follows: Hail to the Horse with the Eight Black Feet, With the Sky for Tail and Mane; With the Forge in its Heart and the World for its Skin, And amid its bones rides Cain! ....................................................
