This was bought testimony.  This tape, and several declarations by Jon 
Zegal, reversed earlier testimony of Jon Zegal and was part of a settlement 
between Jon Zegal and RTC/Church of Scientology.  As part of the 
settlement, apparently, Jon Zegal was paid a sum of money and the RTC/C of 
S agreed to leave him alone.

A friend of mine was so upset by this tape that she called up Jon, and 
getting an answering machine, proceeded to tell the answering machine just 
what she thought of the betrayal.  Jon's new wife, Susan Rios -- who is 
quite a well known artist, called up my friend and said,  "You have to 
understand.  We just couldn't take it anymore."

In several "settlement" agreements, Scientology has had the person make 
declarations to back up Scientology's position, in return for leaving the 
person alone or, in some cases, money.  Most of the settlement agreements 
are confidential, so it is hard to tell on the surface just what 
Scientology is getting out of it.

I think this may be called obstruction of justice.  Are there any lawyers 
who care to comment?
